Assagay Information

Assagay, also spelt Assegay, nestles in the fresh country air west of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal Province, also known as the Zulu Kingdom. Named after the hardwood tree from which Zulu spears were carved, Assegay is very much "horse country". Assagay is close to both the Shongweni Polo Grounds, where international matches are often played, and the Summerveld Jockey & Equestrian Academy as well riding stables offering scenic trails. Other amenities in the Assegay area include Shongweni Game Reserve, Shongweni Dam offering fishing and canoeing, hiking routes, art and craft studios open to the public, and the world famous Valley of 1000 Hills with its living cultural museum, Zulu dancing and many more attractions unique to the area. Whatever attracts you, Assagay's relaxed atmosphere and comfortable B&B guesthouses and self-catering farm cottages are sure to make your stay a memorable experience. About 25 minutes either way between the hotspots of Durban and the provincial capital Pietermaritzburg, Assegay offers the best of all worlds.
